Villa Maria

4* Apartment - Bulgaria

All these places well worth a visit and within easy reach of the villa.

Lake Kornas and Aryiropoulis - a wonderful fresh water lake where you can hire peddaloes, surrounded by mountains on all sides, very picturesque with some ceramic shops and a few excellent tavernas. The waterfalls at Aryiropolis are again beautiful, put on some sensible walking shoes and go exploring. Again fantastic tavernas dishing up the island speciality of goat in the oven, delicious!!

Georgiopolis - A fantastic beach with a church at the end of a jetty in the middle of the sea, again good walking shoes needed. A public swimming pool can be found here, lots of tourist shops selling olive oil, and everything Cretan.

Chania - At least one day must be spent around Chania, a wonderful Venetian harbour, with boat trips out, sunset cruises etc. Loads of historic buildings down tiny side streets, selling all sorts of wonderful objects and pottery. Also great for nightlife expect to stay out til the clubs close as dawn breaks!

Rethymnon - Again a hive of activity, a Venetian harbour to visit, boat trips, many kinds of water sports, and shops galore. Approx. 45 minutes from the villa, certainly worth a whole day trip.

Aptera - The ancient ruins here are worth a visit, and the village itself is very pretty. 20 minutes away along the National highway towards Chania, clearly signposted.

Koumos - A rare sight! An entire house made of Cretan stones with all the ancient farming equipment on show. Plus an Ancient house showing how the Cretans used to live. A restaurant is on site also an Emu, some Cretan goats, pheasants, peacocks. I don't make it sound very exciting...but words can not explain this extraordinary place! From the villa head to Kalives, travel through Kalives village until you see the Inka supermarket on your left. Turn left immediately at the Inka supermarket and go up the hill. I think it's then the second left sharp turn and you will see it in front of you. Free parking and free entry!

Water Park - Limnopolis is the local waterpark, travel towards Chania on highway, go past Chania turnoff past Mournies then take the next exit at Omalos, it will be signposted from here. Again a day worth spending here, there is I think a charge of 15-20 Euros per person or 5 euros if you are just swimming. Food and drink is expensive as it's a major tourist attraction, I always take a picnic!!

Marathi - Superb beach on the other side of Souda Bay! Travel towards Chania airport go past the airport turnoff, then it's signposted about another 15 minutes after the airport.

Akrotiri Peninsular - Whole days can be spent exploring this area!! There is the British War Cemetary also the German War Cemetary, Agia Triada (three monateries) and loads more. I haven't had time myself to do this yet!

These sites are just a few of many wonderful places within easy reach of our villa.
